One carbon asset class that clearly demonstrates Climate Compass' innovation is the development and execution of gas pipeline leak reduction projects. Many of the gas transport and distribution systems operated in developing countries and countries in transition are old, poorly maintained and develop numerous leaks resulting in methane emissions. Even systems in highly developed countries can be prone to leakage. The leaks themselves are often relatively inexpensive to repair, but many gas companies lack the know-how, leak detection equipment, modern repair materials, financing, direct economic incentive, and management focus to repair all but the most dangerous leaks.
Climate Compass personnel have developed and gained approval from the United Nations for a rigorous methodology to quantify emission reductions achieved via investments in gas leak repair and maintenance infrastructure in order to receive carbon credits. Additionally, the Climate Compass team has developed the unparalleled expertise, technology and data management systems required to train, equip and organize the hundreds of people needed to find, repair, and continuously track results for a typical gas company. Climate Compass provides all the components and support needed to create advanced comprehensive leak detection and repair projects within gas distribution/transmission companies. This includes providing the companies access to advanced leak detection technology that can quickly identify and measure each individual leak. Advanced repair materials are also supplied to ensure leaks that are repaired stay fixed. Training and ongoing support make certain that the project is correctly implemented.
Climate Compass is the recognized world leader in this emission reduction asset class and has already generated millions of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) and Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) through its managed projects. Climate Compass' personnel have managed nine of the ten successful global projects using the United Nations AM0023 Methodology. Climate Compass has developed successful projects following both the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and VERRA protocols and have worked to assess, develop and implement projects on five different continents.
